Who's Sid?
Sid is none other than Sidney Elmer "Sonny" Groves who sadly passed away March 2007 from cancer. During this process he was taken care of by the good people at HOPE, Inc. Sid let it be known that he wanted to have a party with all his friends at some point. Unfortunately, Sid passed away before this happened so a decision was made to have fund raiser called the Sid Groves Memorial for Hope, Inc. Sid loved and appreciated the people at HOPE and wanted to help them for all their generosity and professionalism.
Who are the Friends of Sid?
The Friends of Sid name was born during the planning meeting for Sid's memorial. We were thinking about what we wanted to do to honor Sid and make the event a success for HOPE, Inc. At some point in the meeting I recalled something Sid said during a jam session we had with Blaine Hipes, Brian Perry, and Jason Godsey that stuck in mind as I was still reeling from his passing. Sid had left the room and when he came back in that booming voice said, "Fellers there's nothing better than good friends, good food and good music - it doesn't get any better than this" From that point on we knew exactly what to do for the first annual Sid Groves Memorial Benefit for HOPE, Inc., www.hopenwa.org
2007 Fund Raising Events
The first event was held at the Magnolia Inn in Springdale, AR on May 26, 2007. With a lot of Sid's friends the event raised over $4,900.00 for HOPE, Inc. The event had all of Sid's favorites starting with all of his friends and family celebrating his life, sharing stories and live music, topped with a pot luck dinner. Our second event was the 2007 Sid Groves New Years Eve Celebration for HOPE, Inc.
